  • LTAD – Long Term Athlete Development is about achieving the correct training, competition and recovery throughout a young athlete’s career. It provides a framework from which all sports should plan their competition plan.
  • Long Course (LC) – This is used during competitions where the pool will be 50m long. It can also be described as ‘Olympic sized’.
  • Short Course (SC) – this is used during competitions when the pool will be 25m long.
  • Upper Qualifying Time (UQT) – This is the fastest time a swimmer can be to enter a specific race. Anyone with a faster time is not able to enter the event.
  • Lower Qualifying Time (LQT) – This is the slowest time a swimmer can be to enter a specific race. Anyone with a slower time is not able to enter the event.
  • ASA (formally known as the Amateur Swimming Association) - Was the first sport governing body of swimming to be established in the world and today remains the English national governing body for swimming, diving, water polo, open water swimming, and synchronised swimming
  • ASA Number – This is a unique number to each swimmer who is registered with the swimming club. This number needs to be written clearly on the entry sheet when filling in forms for competition. Without this number swimmers are unable to compete.
